The Mind Lies

Yesterday I was scheduled for a meeting with my employer, a few hours before the meeting thoughts of what the meeting could possibly be about started to go off. The main of them was being fired. The lengths and depths with which the mind dug to it is just incredible. This in not a problem. The problem is that the feelings it caused me to have made me suffer. Fear, uneasiness, doubt, a mix of such feelings so intensely. For those few hours I was in angst. I remember asking myself that if things went any other way than how my mind was saying then it would prove itself to be a liar. And of course the meeting turned out to be about something else, that I had been hinted about earlier. Never did that hit my mind as an option thought to explore.

Why am I writing this article? This not the first time my mind has flat out just lied. It is probably the first time I caught it in action and had it proved wrong in the the same breath. This makes me question the number of times the mind has led me astray because of the lies it has told. And it has on many occasions. It almost seems like the mind is always wrong. It has also exposed a toxic habit in me which is believing in what mind says. This habit is losing its grip. Would you ever believe someone that constantly lies to you? Not unless you are naïve.

So the question of who or what to believe if one own mind lies arises. Which I would be slow to reply but only pose back the question — Why would one want to continue believing lies or a liar? Then the second question would arise; doesn’t the mind tell the truth sometime? I would urge whoever asks this only to examine his or her own experiences and let that answer that question.
