Why Human Beings Follow the Masses

Today, I have decided not to go to church. The reason why I keep going to church on Sunday’s is inertia. It has become a solidified part of my routine to go church on Sunday morning that if I missed, I would feel that something is missing.

This is one way in which humans follow the masses. I wouldn’t confidently say that what is being preached in church is truth. But with the assumption that what is preached is truth, the packaging of them as prescriptions is what makes them ineffective. Human beings are told to be good to their neighbors, to be kind, to be honest etc. but when church ends everyone defaults to their defaults. The motivation and feelings of inspiration that arose while in church evaporate quickly. It is not because these human beings are bad, or flawed, it is because prescriptions do not work. Instructing a human being on things that are not mechanical does not work.

Why do human beings follow the masses? It is precisely because they are not interested in truth. Truth comes at the bottom of their priorities, for many human beings, truth becomes an option only when the evidence that all other tips and tricks failed them is undeniable. It is only when they are at the edge of the cliff, with a tiger behind them and a lion at the bottom of the cliff that they will consider the truth.

This is why humans follow the masses, where the masses are there is compromise, there is posturing, there is self editing, there is avoidance of stating truths raw, there is adherence to the group…there are many factors that make the unadorned truth impossible to be found in those places.

What is served to the masses are half truths or truths and falsities mixed. This is why one never gets anywhere significant by following the masses. The only thing of significance in the life of a human is the innermost transformation of himself, it is movement towards freedom. This is not found in the masses. Never.

Man will create a million reasons to adhere with the masses, such as that man is a social creature, such as being with people is good and healthy, etc. and their reason for accepting such as why to adhere to masses is not because they are true but because they sound right, and spiritual and approved by the latest research etc…The length with which he will go to justify himself will reveal his disinterest in finding truth. Such people which is almost all people have to be left alone because truth is not an imposition, it is only available for the one who fed up, who is ready, who wants it now, who can’t live another day without it. Nature is never wasteful.

Even after reading this, a human will remain societal and a follower of the masses. The writer of this is facing the same predicament even as he writes this…
